Keynote Speakers

Prof. Zoran Kapelan (TU Delft)
"Smart Solutions for Secure and Sustainable Urban Water Management" Professor Zoran Kapelan is the Head of Urban Water Infrastructure group at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. He is an IWA Fellow with over 30 years of experience in water engineering. His research involves addressing a wide range of issues in water distribution and urban drainage systems including water security, sustainability and resilience. Several of technologies developed by Prof Kapelan have been used in water companies. He is currently serving on multiple scientific, project and other committees in several countries. Prof Kapelan has given over 80 invited talks and has published over 450 technical papers.

Prof. Dragan Savic (KWR Water Research Institute)
"Sustainable Water Management - the Dutch Experience"
Dragan Savić is Chief Executive Officer at KWR Water based in the Netherlands and Professor of Hydroinformatics at the University of Exeter in the UK. Professor Savić is an international expert in smart water systems with over 35 years of experience working in engineering, academia and research consultancy. His work has resulted in patentable innovation and spinout companies. In addition to innovation and leadership skills, he is known for believing in and practising "bridging science and practice" in the wider water sector and utilities in general. He is a Principal Investigator on a 6-year European Research Council Synergy Grant titled "Water Futures" that aims to develop a theoretical basis for designing smart water systems, which can provide a framework for the allocation and development decisions on drinking water infrastructure systems. Professor Savić is a founder and former director of the Centre for Water Systems, an internationally recognised group for excellence in water and environmental science research. He is a Chartered Civil and Water Engineer with over thirty years of experience in research, teaching and consulting. He is elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Member of the European Academy of Sciences, Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and Fellow of the International Water Association (IWA). Professor Savic served as a Head of Engineering Department in the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences from 2010 until 2014.
